Nintendo Teams Up With Japanese Firm To Develop Games For Smartphones

Nintendo Teams Up With Japanese Firm To Develop Games For Smartphones

Deal between Nintendo and DeNA is reported to be worth not less than $182 million

Nintendo Co., Ltd publicized on Tuesday about teaming up with pioneer Japanese mobile games developer, DeNA in a bid to capture some market share. The company aims to woo gamers by introducing its iconic Italian plumber, Mario to smartphones and other handheld devices.

Nintendo cites descending growth to be caused by sliding consoles sales. Analysts explain Nintendo has lost substantial market share to mobile gaming apps and other leading game consoles with the likes of industry leaders, Sony Corp.’s (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation and Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) Xbox.

The move comes a surprise as video game developer, Nintendo has long stood against offering its games on any platform other than on its consoles such as Wii or its handled console 3DS. The deal between Nintendo and DeNA is reported to be worth not less than $182 million, as Nintendo acquires a 10% stake in the company, DeNA will be able get ahold of 1.24% stake in Nintendo for the same price.

Leading industry experts believe the move by Nintendo to be an effort to inject much needed growth in the business as the company slashed its operating earnings target by at least half to $169 million for the fiscal year.

Nintendo’s President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Satoru Iwata is reported to have commented while speaking to reporters today: “This will allow us to build a bridge between smart devices and gaming consoles. It doesn’t mean smart devices will eat away at gaming consoles, but it will create an entirely new type of demand.”

Nintendo games will not be limited to just smartphones, rather they are reported to be made available on many other handheld devices such as tablets, laptops, and even PCs. The company also aspires to draw in more demand for video games by rolling out a “multi-device membership service for the global market,” said Mr Iwata. The service, which will enable Nintendo to reach out a new threshold of demand, is expected to be launched in the second half of the current year.

The shift in gaming platforms will require Japan-based video games developing giant, Nintendo to overhaul most of its business model, which has solely focused on console based games distribution, but this doesn’t mean the end of Nintendo consoles. The company is reported to have launched a new console in the near future, named NX.

DeNA, founded by Tomoko Namba, was launched in 1999 but has struggled to gain momentum as the games developing industry gets saturated. However, the company is expected by analysts to make remarkable growth by partnering with Nintendo to launch the new initiative.

Tale of Being Hacked Again and Again – SONY’s Year 2014

The year 2014 has been terrible for Sony when it comes to its releases and up-coming projects. Not even the last thing SONY wanted was a cyber-attack that leaks the upcoming Bond film (Spectre) Screen Play. Furthermore, the attack also made some private emails between the Holly Wood and SONY personnel public. It had discussed Obama and Angelina Jolie too, ouch!

It all started with threatening Sony to not release “The Interview” that showed (depicted) assassination of North Korean Leader. It can be a conspiracy by them but it can also be some disgruntled employees at Sony who did this. Because this is not the only thing that happened, the new Xperia Z4 images were leaked and made public. It was sent in a product-placement offer for the upcoming Bond movie. The email was sent from CEO, Sony Pictures Entertainment. The email included “the needed visuals of the new Z4 Phones”. It has striking resemblance to the legit design and is sadly true.

Sony

Along with the screenplay and Z4 images, it was also the employees’ passwords and medical history being leaked. The company is supposed to look into its network and communications security before it has nothing on its hands. Furthermore, the email exposed showed some wrist wearable gadget too, maybe some smart watch Sony planned on launching?

This issue was seriously noticed and criticized by actor and director George Clooney (who had the emails exposed in cyber-attack on Sony). He says, media “abdicated its real duty”. Talking further, he expressed his frustration as: “With just a little bit of work, you could have found out that it wasn’t just probably North Korea; it was North Korea … It’s a serious moment in time that needs to be addressed seriously, as opposed to frivolously.”

The question rises here is what will be the approach followed by Sony in order to prevent such attacks being taken place. Also it questions the online security measures that Sony is currently having. This definitely is scary for so many current employees in this firm and also anyone who wishes to do business with it; no one would want their private emails to be exposed due to some movie being released which is offensive to some. Or why are there so many disgruntled employees aiming to attack Sony after leaving it or filing lawsuits? Too many questions I shall leave on you to answer or analyze.

Sony Launches Its Waterproof Andorid Xperia M4 Aqua

sony xperia

Coming up with a waterproof phone is nothing new or different than before. Waterproof phones have been around for as long as one can remember, mostly consists of a flappy cover to protect its ports.  But let’s just face it, the cover always break after a while and never stays put for long.

Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) on the other hand has recently launched the solution of the general issue with waterproof phones, by launching its own Sony Xperia M4 Aqua. The android smartphone is built smartly eliminating those exceptionally unreliable socket ports. Having said that, the microUSB slot is devoid of the cap, however, a cap is still found on the SD Card slot

The question is if the new Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is worthwhile the purchase as a waterproof android smartphone?

Basically, on a general analysis, the phone itself is a generally designed belonging to mid-range android devices, only with the exception of the waterproof feature. The functionality and performance is nothing noteworthy and doesn’t possess any stand out efficiency.

The phone contains 13MP/5MP front/back cameras with an octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon processor that powers on Lollipop operating system. Sony claims that their new product has longer battery life and is fully functional on battery for over two days.

Sony also points that their phone is only waterproof under specified “few conditions”. These conditions as noted by the electronics and mobile manufacturing company itself are;

  1. One, the smartphone shouldn’t be allowed to get submerged past 1.5 meters in water. Basically implying that you may bid farewell if your phone mistakenly gets drowned in the deep.
  2. Other than that, the survival rate of phone doesn’t imply for salt water, but only in chlorinated water. And then too users are advised to rinse off their phones under tap water to remove any traces of existing chlorine with-in.
  3. Naturally, the last is that the USB port should be as dry as a desert before charging or inserting into cable.

The phone reportedly will have a starting price of approximately $335, and would be available for distribution in over 80 countries. However, the phone would reportedly not be made available in United States itself as Sony announces to distribute only its flagship products there.

There is nothing more to analyze that Xperia M4 Aqua is only waterproof not even partially but to an extent. Despite the fact that the company’s launched product stand out remotely in the market of waterproof phones amongst the top tier.
